Cosley Zoo in Wheaton a Great Summer Trip
Today my family and I took a trip out to Wheaton to visit the Cosley Zoo – lured out by the sunny weather and the promise of near-60 degree temperatures. It was a close choice between the Cosley Zoo and the Phillips Park Zoo in Aurora but we have been to the Phillips Park Zoo dozens of times and wanted to check out something new. I have to say, for a smaller regional zoo, the Cosley Zoo is excellent. We had a great time checking out the baby sheep just born on 3/31 and watching an American Kestral and a pair of Red Foxes being fed. A few of the animals were still off-exhibit for the winter but most of them were out and about. The facilities at the Cosley Zoo were pretty well-kept and the price was just right – free for Wheaton Park District residents and $3 for non-residents.
As the weather warms, many families are going to be looking for those short, cheap day-trips and I definately want to bring the Cosley Zoo up as a great way to spend an afternoon. Perhaps the only negative I can see is a somewhat small parking lot. I bet when the weather warms up and everything is in bloom, the lots are packed and spots are hard to come by. But in any case, my family and I fully enjoyed our visit and will definatley return in the future.
