Riddle Highlands Subdivision
The Riddle Highlands subdivision began development in the 1920’s. By 1930 approximately fifty homes had been built, most of these by the developer, Frank Riddle. The subdivision is noted for its fine collection of Period Revival style homes. Through the efforts of area residents to preserve the character of their neighborhood, Riddle Highlands was designated a local historic district in 1989. The pillars which adorn all the entrances to Riddle Highlands, provide a stately welcome to all who enter the subdivision.
You'll find a variety of home styles in the Riddle Highlands subdivision including English Cottage influences, American Four-square, Tudor style and others. Many homeowners in the Riddle Highlands enjoy living in an Aurora historic district and owning a part of Illinois history. Driving through the neighborhood you will notice many of the homes are solidly built from brick or even local quarry stone.
The Riddle Highlands Historic District is located near the intersection of Lawndale Avenue and Wilder Street (west of Route 31) on the west side of the Fox River. The entire Riddle Highlands Historic District encompasses several blocks of unique and historical homes. It's also located conveintly near local shopping venues such as the Northgate Shopping Center on Lake Street and has easy access to I-88.
